Globally renowned designer Tom Dixon was born in Tunisia, moving to England with his English father and French mother when he was four. Self-taught and now a prolific, successful designer his breakthrough worldwide recognition came after he designed a legless chair for Italian brand Cappellini in 1985.
Inhabitants using the kitchen will be forced to constantly evaluate their food choices, say the designers, not to mention how well they stay on top of keeping their homes in order. One practical benefit would be instantly being able to see how much you currently have of any particular type of food, discouraging waste and potentially shaming you into choosing healthier items instead of junk your guests can clearly spot right through your cabinet doors.
2015 marked the first instance of collaboration between the two companies, in which they designed and produced 100 hand-painted refrigerators for the Salone Del Mobile design fair in Milan. The collection was called “Frigorifero d’Arte,” and each one of its FAB28 fridges bore a hefty price tag of £36,000 not a casual purchase by any stretch of the imagination.
Though initially intended to be presented individually in four different countries, the conceptual kitchens were presented together as ‘The Restaurant’ at the Milan Design Week in April 2016. Said Dixon: ”We thought it would be great to bring them all together at the most important design show of all. When we found the 18th century building (Rotonda Della Besana church) in the shape of a cross with four distinct spaces, it was like a sign”.
On top of that, they wanted a walk-in closet, all of the standard appliances that can be found in any modern apartment, a luxuriously large bathroom with a tub, flexibility in the use of all the spaces and an airy feeling – all on a tight budget. That’s a tall order for any architect, but what Matz delivered is an unexpected built-in room-within-a-room that meets all of the couple’s expectations.
It has to be said: wow! These units can fit happily into one-room living, and they can look just as fabulous in a large (and fabulous) space. This kitchen incorporates a mini-garden of living greenery, so you can snip your herbs, cook your food, sit down, eat and enjoy. Ab Fab, dahling.
You may like sitting in your kitchen, or you may always be found in your kitchen at parties. But, you need never leave your kitchen at all if it’s incorporated this beautifully and comfortably into your lounge area. That’s what this system does.
This elaborately-decorated kitchenware will bring a taste of Sicilian paradise to your home and undoubtedly be a talking point among all of your guests. The line features citrus juicers, toasters, coffee machines, blenders, kettles, stand mixers, and slow juicers. Since they’re all so visually striking, it’s going to be very hard to resist buying them all up at once!
Of course, the ideal solution would be to integrate the bar block into a coherently designed kitchen from the outset, but this is not always possible. The Vertical Bar Block brings functionality back to those bothersome corners and small spaces that sometimes evade kitchen designers, and it’s an attractive-yet useful-product that ties the kitchen together to boot.
Encompassing the true spirit of Sicily, the companies’ newest line of kitchenware is adorned with prickly pears, bright cherries, citrus fruits, and acanthus leaves, all of which have been painted in Dolce & Gabbana’s characteristically quirky and vibrant style. Framed with traditional triangular decorations known as “crocchi” and covered in delicate floral patterns inspired by Mount Etna and the Southern coasts, these appliances are certainly SMEG’s most colorful designs to date.
The SieMatic kitchen design system is all about versatility and individual choice. The units can be configured to fit your taste, your space and your needs. Even period features like fireplaces are unphased when surrounded by contemporary kitchen cabinetry of such seamless perfection.
The shelves also come fitted with indents to hold wine bottles in place, so there’ll be no slipping and sliding! Wooden storage boxes that are made from the same material as the cutting boards can be pulled out from the bar block if you need to dig into them to get something or removed altogether. To top it all off, the bottom shelf of the bar block is great for storing baking trays, as it has a slightly higher opening than those above it, making the entire unit perfect for insertion beside the oven.
Comprised of a system of open shelving that can be used to store anything from wine bottles to cups and decorative ornaments, the bar block also comes with three specially-designed cutting boards, which slot in and can be easily removed one at a time. The shelves themselves can be repositioned as required, allowing you to clear some space if you ever need to store bigger items.
